Holli — this one’s for you. And anyone else who may be curious about dreadlocks.
The first gentleman is in the first stages of growth – about where I am lengthwise, but mine haven’t permanently locked yet and the second gentleman is where I want to be – long glorious locks that I can style to my heart’s content.
For more info, you can check out Wikipedia’s entry on dreads. Happy reading!
Interesting photo on the right. I don’t want to sound offensive, but is he Asian? I ask because I have a friend who’s lived in Japan for years, and from what he tells me, they adore and embrace African-American hip-hop culture, including hairstyles. Apparently, “dread perms” that make the hair kinky enough for locking are popular over there.
I’m almost two years into this set of locks: goal is elbow-length.
@ k. danielle — I don’t think so. My brother sent me the pic and I thought he was a friend/associate of his. Never even thought to ask what his ancestry is. I’ll ask.
If I can get mine mid-back, I’ll be happy. Of course, I’ll be happy when they actually lock up. One step at a time I suppose.
Thanks for stopping by.
one day i’m going to get some guts up and try to go natural. i always get really close to doing it and then i chicken out. so, i’ll live thru your experience.
