Umm yeah, I’m pretty excited! A few weeks ago, Creole in DC posted a pic of Roslyn on her site. First thing I noticed? Ms. Hardy Holcomb’s hair – beautiful! I emailed Roslyn and asked her what she used on her hair. Her response – Suave shampoo. And she finger latches her locks as opposed to twisting them – which is what I do.
Roslyn explained the finger latching process, but I’m a “visual learner” so I looked it up on youtube, found a video and cannot wait to wash my hair tonight to try this out!
I don’t think I’ve got many locked readers – Kia you out there??? Has anyone tried this? Do you prefer it to twisting and clipping your locks right after you wash them? I think the reason this has so much appeal to me is because it can be done on dry hair. I can work on my head a bit at a time, and not worry about rushing to get my hair twisted before it dries.
Okay, I’m rambling and I know it. Anyhoo, if you’re interested in the finger latching process, the video is below.
hey im here!!! hey i just bought up a bunch of suave shampoo and matching clarifying conditioiner =)))) my girl shawnta (divine dime/rae)who does loc vids on you tube said that’s what she uses too (she’s maintained her own locs, has only visited the salon twice, and they are now down her back)
i will watch the vid when i get home… i don’t get on youtube as much anymore cuz 10mins can be soooo long when you have a 4 year old LOL
i do need to watch the latching tut because the way i know how to do it, i still need to twist and clip. thanks for posting
)
Thanks for this post! I never heard of finger latching! This I will try. I love blogland! I’ve learned so many useful things in blogland!
Ok. That is a lot of work. I will not complain about doing my hair anymore. LOL
thanks for the video. i’m on the fence about locs. i’ve haven’t had a relaxer in about 3 years, but i’ve had weaves and braids that whole time. my stylist suggested coils that you do with the end of a rattail comb before i commit to locs, so that’s the next thing i’ll try, once it cools off.
Hey, I just wanted to thank you for the video. I just finished reading all this information about how to use a latch hook on locs, and I kept saying to myself, “Why can’t I just use my fingers?” Then I saw your video and you were doing it the exact same way I was picturing it, so I felt more confident starting to finger latch my own locs. Good lookin’ out!
This is the best demo of finger latching that I’ve seen. I started my locs in December and am going to have to maintain them myself. My loctician swears by finger-latching and has shown me how to do this, but it will be great to have this video when I actually try it.
BTW, I hope that my locs eventually look like yours.
@Zahra and Lammer – glad y’all found the video helpful, but I need to tell you – that’s not me in the video. The video is one I found on youtube. I’ve actually only finger-latched once since I posted this – I’m so used to twisting and clipping that the latching just seemed too time consuming. I may give it another whirl soon though. Have y’all tried the latching yet? What did you thinkg? Good luck with your respective locs!
