There really is no excuse for such a blatantly racist “cartoon.” It amazes me that after all that we’ve accomplished, we are still being minimized to sub-human levels. The staff of the NY Post should be ashamed of themselves and the cartoonist/racist should be fired immediately.
On a lighter note…stop by BGG today!
My husband was home sick today and not online, so I described the cartoon to him. He always plays Devil’s Advocate and said: “They constantly put George Bush next to pictures of chimps and monkeys when he was president. If we are truly going to get over race in this country, it has to be okay for them to do that to Barack too.”
I completely disagree with him and I don’t want anybody to use the excuse that “America is now post-racial” to justify this cartoon. Ecch.

@ Lisa Blah Blah – As someone who is known to play Devil’s Advocate myself, I just can’t with this one. If depiction as a monkey wasn’t soooo racially tinged, but uh uh. Not this time. I don’t think we’ll ever get over race in this country. Ever. Of course, I never thought we’d have a black president, so I’m hoping I’m wrong on this one too.
