Anyhoo, late Saturday morning Lovegirl and I made our way to the annual St. P.atrick’s Day parade in downtown Jackson. The parade starts at noon and well, I don’t really know when it ends because I can’t hang.
The parade starts with a police motorcade, then people collect donations for the local children’s hospital. The next groups to march are the Sweet Potato Queens – these groups come from all over the country and world. I think there was a group from Indonesia marching this year. In between there are political candidates, a few drum corps and the JSU percussion section. Finally, the floats.
We had our usual good time. First Lovegirl wants me to pick her up. Nope, not happening. Then she sits down and plays with rocks or sticks or something she’s found on the ground. After about 20 minutes of that – during which I’m busy watching her and hollering for beads – she gets into parade mode and starts hollering for beads, begging for flowers, and making friends all around. We had a ball! Maybe next year you’ll join us?

Peeking at me from her prime parade viewing locale.

The Memphis Sweet Potato Queens rocking out to Elvis.

She NEVER meets a stranger.

This officer stole the parade! Jackson State's band was behind him and he truly got his party on!

Crowd shot. Rumor has it that Jackson has one of the largest St. Patrick's Day parades in the country?!?

See that man? Lovegirl had him catching beads for her, propping her up on the barricade so she could get a better view AND she talked him into climbing over the barricade and getting her a fake flower. I almost felt sorry for the man!!
LOL your daughter is certainly a LoveGirl! Too funny at her new friend helping her out. Great pics that looks like a fun parade
He couldn’t resist somebody as cute as Lovegirl and ohhh my at that officer!
I was done when I saw the officer. Too bad we didn’t take Aidan, he would have killed to see the “big drummers” from JSU. And Lovegirl got in where she fit in! I ain’t mad at her!!
LoveGirl’s hair is beautiful!
Nice and shiny. Healthy.
Gold star, mom!
