I’m pretty sure S.ting and the P.olice were not talking about me!  However. . .

My seven favorite words:  “Honey, do you want some free time?”

Duh!

Right after Lovegirl was born, and for about 2 years after that, I thought I was being unnecessarily selfish when I asked for “me time.”  You know, that time you spend doing nothing except for what gives you pleasure in that moment.  No little person pulling on your shirt asking you to sing a song, watch N.oggin with her, or make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich without jelly.  No husband asking what’s for dinner or if the light bill has been paid.  Just you and . . . whatever.

Guilt, be gone!  I now cherish the time I am able to spend just focusing on self.  And by focus on self, I don’t mean anything constructive like learning Latin or organizing closets.  I mean sitting at B.orders with an overpriced cup of coffee, flipping through magazine after magazine.  Wandering the aisles of T.arget looking at cute “stuff” that I don’t need and won’t be buying.  Sitting in a movie theatre watching the latest blockbuster movie.  Surfing the ‘net and catching up on the lives of various and sundry folks.  Taking hours to give myself a proper pedicure.  Making a necklace I may never wear.  Just chillaxin’ all by my lonesome.  Nothing like it in the world!

I’ve got Ladies’ Night Out with my friends, and every once in a while the gang from work will go out – and while I enjoy this time with others, to me nothing beats quality time with me.  I crave this down time.  I require this down time.  I refuse to feel guilty about it and honestly look forward to a time in my life when I’ll have more of it.

Do you get “me” time?  How do you spend it?  If you don’t, why?  Are you going to start?

(I’ve had this in my draft folder for a while – just never hit publish)

Enjoy!

Lovegirl and I went to K.ohl’s the other night.  She insisted on riding in the basket because she was “tired. ” She also insisted on bringing her cell phone in the store, “in case somebody tries to call me, Mama.”  While I was trying to decide whether or not to buy a pair of pants (I did), she dropped her phone.  “Mama, will you pick up my phone please?”  So I do and hand it back to her.  “Thanks Gorgeous – you’re such a swell mom!”

Thanks Gorgeous? I’m a “swell mom?”  Where does this kid get this stuff??

Lovegirl:  Mom, can you take me to see B.arack O.bama?

Nerd Girl:  Honey, I don’t think we can just go see President O.bama.

Lovegirl:  Why?

Nerd Girl:  Well, he’s the President honey, and he’s very busy.  I don’t think we’ll be able to go see him right now.  I don’t even know him.

Lovegirl:  Well, can you take me to see Jesus?  You know him, don’t you?

Touche!

Lovegirl singing softly:  I bust the windows out your car . . . .

Nerd Girl:  Lovegirl, I told you not to sing that song.  Mama doesn’t like it.

Lovegirl:  Okay.

Moments later, she’s singing it again.

Nerd Girl:  Lovegirl . . . . .

Lovegirl:  Oh Mama, I just love that song.  It has a nice beat.  And she must have been really mad to bust the windows out of a car.  Don’t you think?

I’ve Got Nothing

I don’t feel like blogging.  I don’t know if this is temporary or permanent, but I’m just not feeling it lately.  I’m going to do some randoms and see if posting helps me get my “mojo” back.  If I ever had any to begin with . . .

  • Lovegirl is sick.  She has the flu.  No need for sympathy - she feels fine.  She wants to go outside, she wants to fly a kite, she’s ready to go to school and to the gym and see her friends.  No ma’am.  She is highly contagious even though she’s on the downward swing of this thing.  Apparently I should’ve taken her to the doctor Friday instead of playing Dr. Mom and deciding she had a sinus infection because of her allergies.  Oops.
  • How do ya’ll know when to take your kiddos to the doctor?  Half the time I take her, she’s fine.  Then there are those occasions when she has the flu.  Or scarlet fever.  I don’t want to run to the doctor every time she sneezes, but I certainly don’t want to jeopardize her health with my obviously poor diagnosis skills either!
  • Ouch!  One of my friends met me at the gym last week because I’d been complaining about not really seeing any results as far as toning was concerned.  Now I know why – my form was off.  I wasn’t doing  a good job isolating the muscle I was working.  I’m definitely feeling my workouts more now, and will hopefully be seeing some results soon.  Bathing suit season here I come!
  • My child is running around singing “hey dirty, baby I got ya money.”  Maybe letting her listen to my mp3 player at the doctor’s office wasn’t such a good idea . . . Not sure how I’m going to explain her new- found appreciation for someone named Ol Dirty B.astard.
  • Stop the presses!  B.ristol P.alin and Levi Whats-his-name broke up.  Who’da thunk it?
  • I’m glad I work.  If for no other reason than daytime television blows.  I am reminded of this every time I am home because of sickness – mine or Lovegirl’s.  This stuff is not even worth wasting electricity on.
  • Speaking of sickness – I don’t get sick very often.  When I call in sick it is usually because my allergies are acting up.  Colds, stomach ills, the flu?  They all usually pass right by me.  Lovegirl’s pediatrician was like, do you want to take some T.amiflu and maybe you won’t get sick?  Nope, I’m good.  I chalk it up to the vitamin c and cod liver oil I take every day.  Smoochy mocks me, but believe me, he is sniffling and blowing his nose and taking Alka Seltzer Plus way more regularly than I.
  • I got a C on my midterm.  I wish I was a bit more traumatized than I am, but honestly, I don’t think I even care.  I haven’t gotten a C since Organic Chemistry in undergrad.  I’m going to have to buckle down and somehow get a B in this class – what would it look like if I flunked out of FREE school?!?!  Geesh.
  • Judge not lest ye be judged.  Just putting that out there in case anyone needed reminding.
  • I  need to clean up my blogroll – quite a few of those folks haven’t posted in quite a while.  Maybe tomorrow.
  • Okay, I’m wrapping this up.  I’ve got some push ups and sit ups to do.  Peace out!
